Podcast Summaries for Commuters

Your commute is 20 minutes. The episode is 3 hours. Math doesn't work. PodSized turns any podcast into a 5-minute audio summary you can listen to like any other podcast — perfect for the drive, the train, or the walk to the office.

The commute math problem

The average US commute is 26 minutes one way. Average Tim Ferriss episode? 2.5 hours. Average Huberman Lab? 2 hours. Average Lex Fridman? 3+ hours. Even Acquired runs 3-5 hours per episode.

You can technically listen to a long-form episode over multiple commutes — but you lose the thread, forget the early parts, and never quite finish. PodSized fixes this by giving you the whole episode, narratively coherent, in the time you actually have.

How it works on a commute

1. Search any podcast → tap an episode

Use the iOS app or web app. Search for any podcast, pick the episode you wish you had time for.

2. Get a 5-minute audio summary (Premium)

PodSized transcribes the full episode, summarizes it with chapter awareness, and generates an audio version. Plays in the PodSized app or via AirPlay/Bluetooth. CarPlay support is in App Store review.

3. Decide if it's worth a full listen

If the 5-minute version sparks interest, the full episode is one tap away in your regular podcast app. If not, you've still caught the key points — and saved 2 hours.

Why audio specifically?

Most AI podcast tools (Podwise, Snipcast, BibiGPT) produce text-only summaries. You can't read while driving, walking, or biking — which is when most podcast listening happens. Audio summaries solve this directly: same content, same medium, just compressed.

PodSized is currently the only major AI podcast tool that produces audio versions of every summary. See how it compares to Snipd, Podwise, and Snipcast.

Frequently asked questions

How long is a typical PodSized audio summary?
About 5 minutes. The exact length scales with episode length — a 2-hour episode produces a 4-6 minute summary, a 45-minute episode produces a 3-4 minute summary. The goal is to fit inside the average commute.
Can I listen to summaries in CarPlay or Android Auto?
CarPlay support is built and currently in App Store review — shipping in the next App Store update. Until then, you can play audio summaries via AirPlay or Bluetooth in the car. We don't have an Android app yet; the mobile web app works on Android with browser-based audio.
Are audio summaries free or Premium?
Audio summaries are a Premium feature ($4.99/month or $49.99/year). The free tier gives you 3 AI text summaries per month with timestamped chapter outlines. Premium unlocks unlimited summaries, audio versions, AI chat with episodes, full transcripts, and Ask PodSized cross-episode Q&A.
Will the audio summary capture the actual voices from the episode?
No — the audio summary is AI-narrated text-to-speech, not a remix of the original audio. We chose this so the summary flows as a single coherent narrative instead of disconnected clips. If you want to hear specific quoted moments in the original voices, full episode audio is still available in your regular podcast app.
Which podcasts are best for a short commute?
Tactical short-form shows like NPR News Now or The Daily are already commute-friendly. The bigger value of PodSized is for long-form shows you wish you had time for — Tim Ferriss, Huberman, Lex Fridman, Acquired — where a 5-minute summary unlocks shows that otherwise wouldn't fit your schedule.
