Listen to Podcast Summaries in 5 Minutes

You can't read a podcast summary while driving. You can't read one on a run. You can't read one walking the dog. That's why we built audio summaries — same insights, same medium as the podcast itself, just compressed.

Why audio matters

Most AI podcast summary tools — Podwise, Snipcast, BibiGPT — produce text only. That's fine if you're at a desk. But podcast listening doesn't happen at a desk. It happens in cars, on runs, while making breakfast, on the way to work. Text summaries assume your eyes are free; in practice, your eyes are almost never free during the moments you want to listen.

PodSized is currently the only major AI podcast tool that produces a ~5-minute audio version of every summary. The summary plays like any other podcast — CarPlay, regular podcast apps, the gym, wherever.

The 5-minute commute math

A 26-minute commute. A 2-hour podcast episode. The standard advice is: "just listen across multiple commutes." That's terrible advice. You lose the thread, forget the first 30 minutes by the time you hit the last 30, and almost never finish.

A 5-minute audio summary lets you actually consume the episode — start to finish, in narrative order — during the time you actually have. Five minutes in, you know exactly what was discussed. If it's compelling enough, you'll make time for the full episode. Most often, the summary is the full episode.

Use cases

  • Commuting — Listen during your morning drive. Full commuter guide →
  • Running / working out — Get through 3 episodes during one workout instead of half an episode
  • Walking the dog — A 5-minute walk fits a 5-minute summary perfectly
  • Cooking / chores — Hands-busy moments are perfect for short audio
  • Triaging your subscription queue — Listen to summaries to decide which full episodes deserve your time

Frequently asked questions

Is there an app where I can listen to podcast summaries?
PodSized is currently the only major AI podcast summary tool that produces audio versions of every summary. Open the iOS app or web app, pick an episode, and hit play on the ~5-minute audio summary. Audio summaries are a Premium feature ($4.99/mo or $49.99/yr); the free tier includes 3 text summaries per month. Podwise, Snipcast, BibiGPT, and Snipd are all text-first (Snipd plays full episodes; the others are read-only).
How long is a typical podcast audio summary?
About 5 minutes. Length scales roughly with episode length: a 30-minute episode → 3-4 minute summary; a 90-minute episode → 5-6 minute summary; a 3-hour episode → 6-8 minute summary. The compression ratio is intentionally high — we err on the side of "too short" rather than "too long."
Is the audio AI-generated or a remix of the original?
AI-generated. We use modern text-to-speech to narrate the AI summary as a single coherent piece, rather than splicing clips from the original episode. This makes the summary flow as a normal podcast — no abrupt cuts, no inconsistent audio quality. If you want to hear specific moments in the original voices, the full episode is still there in your regular podcast app.
Can I listen to summaries in CarPlay?
CarPlay support is built and currently in App Store review — expected to ship in the next App Store update. Until then, audio summaries play in the iOS app and via AirPlay or Bluetooth.
How is this different from a podcast player like Snipd or Overcast?
Podcast players play the full episode. PodSized produces a separate, shorter audio summary you listen to instead of the full episode. If the summary is interesting enough, you can then go to your regular player and listen to the full episode. Think of PodSized as the "movie trailer" version — except the trailer actually tells you what happens.
What's the cross-episode "Ask PodSized" feature?
Ask PodSized lets you ask a question once and get a grounded answer drawing from across your entire summarized catalog — not just a single episode. Example: "What do Tim Ferriss and Huberman both say about cold exposure?" The AI searches all summaries via semantic embeddings, retrieves the most relevant episodes, and synthesizes an answer with citations linking to specific episode summaries. Available on Premium.
