The apology and the spin

Devers addressed the media Tuesday before a game against the Athletics — something he rarely does despite being a $300 million player. He called it a "misunderstanding," claiming he thought manager Tony Vitello was pulling him due to lingering hamstring soreness. He said the hamstring is no longer an issue. He apologized to Vitello in the manager's office after the game, and they talked on the long flight from Florida back to the West Coast. Devers called the incident "heat of the moment."

Then he blamed the media for blowing it out of proportion. That's why he avoids talking to reporters, he said.
