OpenAI Acquisition of TBPN

Fiji Simo, OpenAI's head of communications and marketing, announced the acquisition on the company's blog. She highlighted TBPN's editorial instincts, audience insights, and role in hosting daily conversations with AI builders and users. OpenAI sees TBPN as a key space for constructive dialogue amid AI's rapid changes, rather than building something similar internally.

The deal brings TBPN's team into OpenAI's strategy organization, reporting to Chris Lahane. Simo stressed protecting TBPN's editorial independence: the show will continue its three-hour daily live format, select its own guests, and make unfettered decisions to maintain credibility. TBPN has never chased scoops or exclusives, instead focusing on contextualizing news with industry voices. The hosts noted they turn down exclusives, directing sources to outlets like the Times or Bloomberg before inviting them for deeper discussion.
