Gas prices hit a new national average of $4.39 a gallon this week, a jump of 33 cents in just the last seven days, as the ongoing U.S.-Israeli war with Iran continues to rattle energy markets. Crude oil prices remain elevated, with West Texas Intermediate closing Friday around $102 a barrel and Brent crude at roughly $108. NPR's Scott Horsley reported there is little relief in sight.

President Trump delivered a campaign-style speech on the economy to Florida seniors on Friday, touting the tax benefits and prescription drug price decreases from his signature tax and spending bill passed last year. He also highlighted the performance of retirement accounts, saying "the 401ks and retirement accounts of millions of American seniors [are] skyrocketing like never before." However, the war in Iran has pulled much of Trump's focus away from domestic priorities, and polls show Americans increasingly disapprove of his handling of the economy, even as the White House insists it remains focused on an affordability agenda.
