Congressman Cleo Fields, who represents the district at the center of the case, called the decision “a grave setback to voting rights and to the promise of equal political representation for all Americans.” Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill, however, said she agrees with the court’s decision, arguing that the redrawn map relied too heavily on race. “I think this takes us back where we always have been and should be, and that is with legislatures following traditional redistricting,” Murrill said.
