President Trump announced Sunday night that the U.S. military will begin a blockade of all Iranian ports starting Monday at 10 a.m. Eastern, aiming to weaken Iran’s strategic leverage over oil transiting the Strait of Hormuz. Speaking to reporters, Trump also expressed frustration with NATO, saying “I’m very disappointed in NATO. They didn’t do the — they weren’t there for us. We pay trillions of dollars for NATO and they weren’t there for us.” He added that NATO’s relationship with the U.S. will face further scrutiny.

Hungary’s Election Shifts EU Dynamics

European Union leaders have quickly congratulated Peter Magyar on his party’s decisive victory over Prime Minister Viktor Orbán in Hungary’s parliamentary elections. Brussels hopes the result will end the roadblocks Orbán had thrown in the way of EU decisions, particularly on helping Ukraine and sanctioning Russia. Orbán had blocked many EU initiatives and was holding up a major loan to Ukraine and the next package of sanctions against Russia. Magyar has pledged to renew Hungary’s relationship with the EU. European Council President António Costa noted the record turnout and said he looks forward to working closely with Magyar to make Europe stronger and more prosperous.
