She confesses what she has long suspected: as a child, every attempt at nature magic ended with plants dying around her, with animals getting sick. Her mother always told her it had nothing to do with her. "And then she died," Reverie says quietly. "And what if it was me?" This moment crystallizes the episode's central tension—the fear that one's own nature is destructive, and the desperate search for whether that nature can be controlled or changed.

The Weight of Inheritance

The episode opens with a flashback to Reverie and her twin sister Rafe as seven-year-olds, attempting to learn cantrips from their mother Erlin in the gardens of High Hall in Elturel. Rafe blooms a flower effortlessly—a plumeria-like bloom with a purple center instead of yellow. Reverie fails. Her small bud buries itself in the soil. Her frustration builds until a starling falls dead from a tree beside her, black splotches growing on its feathers—the same black splotches now appearing on the plant in Lunar Sierra's office.
