A Vampire in the Mines

The party had barely entered the dark caverns beneath the desert city of Caley when they found the body. A Tabaxi woman, dead in a small alcove, with two small punctures in her neck and not a drop of blood left in her. Lenore, the fairy sorcerer, touched the wound and confirmed what her companions already suspected: whatever killed this woman drank her dry. Poppy, the giant-blooded monk, immediately began whittling the end of her torch into a stake.

The group had come to Caley on behalf of the Order, tasked with clearing out a beast that had been attacking miners and halting shipments of weapons. Marin K, the forge master, had given them a map and promised to resume shipments if they could make the mines safe again. But what they found underground was far stranger than a simple monster. The tunnels held darkness lanterns connected to motors, claw scratches that were too uniform to be natural, and confusing levers designed to disorient anyone passing through. And now, a drained corpse.
