Victor Davis Hanson, speaking with Jack Fowler on his 73rd birthday, turns the conversation toward a grim diagnosis of American education and culture. He argues that the left’s project over the last forty years has been to deliberately make people ignorant—not by accident, but by design. The central claim is that the education system first committed a “crime of omission” by ceasing to teach the Constitution, civics, ethics, classical literature, and American history. Then it committed a “crime of commission” by filling the resulting void with an ideology centered on racism, sexism, tribalism, transgenderism, and hatred of America. The result, Hanson says, is a generation that has “no weapons to counter it because they had destroyed rhetoric and logic.”
