The listener known as E grew up bouncing between Florida and Alabama, caught between two very different family traditions — her father’s side was deeply Catholic but also believed in spirits, reincarnation, and brujería, while her mother’s family owned a rural property with abandoned barns, a family graveyard, and an old photograph showing a man nobody recognized standing behind her grandmother in the garden. E describes feeling watched her entire life, and the feeling followed her from house to house. As a teenager she experienced sleep paralysis, chest pressure, scratches appearing on her body, and a room that turned freezing cold when she was asked to sit in it alone. Her aunt told her bluntly that a faceless little girl in a white dress who had died in the house years earlier “doesn’t like you.” E’s boyfriend has told her that the way she describes things “does not sound normal.” She ends her letter asking whether this sounds like an attachment or something psychological. The hosts land on a combination: trauma and family history likely made her more open, and she was simply born into it.
