The Messages That Didn't Add Up

Detective Gibson sat across from Danny in the interrogation room and told him he was under arrest for murder. "You realize that this warrant is an arrest warrant for you, right?" Gibson said. "And you realize that I had to have a state attorney, a prosecutor, review this, and I had to have evidence to get this." Danny insisted he was innocent. "I don't think why y'all messing with me," he said. "Y'all looking at the wrong person."

But Gibson had been building this case for months, and he had something Danny didn't know he knew.

The Timeline That Couldn't Work

The interrogation began with Gibson walking Danny through his own alibi. In a previous interview, Danny had told detectives that on the night Andre was killed, he was at his own house when he started getting text messages from Andre saying she needed help. He said he picked up a friend named Jones and they went to Andre's house together, where they found her dead.

But Gibson had evidence that contradicted every part of this story. "I know what time you got to her house and it wasn't after nine," Gibson told him. "You weren't over there for any 20 minutes. You were over there for some time. And you were the only one over there. Because nobody else came in that house."
