Manipulative Wife Shoots Husband, Thinks She Can Collect On His $800,000 Life Insurance

In the early morning hours after a family birthday party, a woman called 911 to report that an intruder had broken into her home, struck her with a tool, and shot her husband Greg in the head as he lay in bed. By the time police arrived, Greg was dead from a single gunshot wound to the right temple. The woman told investigators she had been cleaning the house in preparation for a move, fell asleep on the couch near her young daughter, and woke to a noise around 4 a.m. When she opened the bedroom door, she said, she was hit by something and briefly knocked out. When she came to, she saw a man in dark clothing standing at the foot of the bed, heard a country accent, and then a gunshot. The man fled through a back door that was normally locked and rarely used.

But as the lead detective walked through the scene and listened to her account, he found himself unable to square her story with what the physical evidence was telling him.
