JJ Martin: On Transcendental Travel and Raising Your Vibration

JJ Martin’s Milan fashion label Double J is often described as maximalist, joyful, and colorful. But for Martin, the clothes are a Trojan horse for something far larger: a mission she calls “raise your vibration.” In this conversation with David Prior, recorded shortly after the opening of her five-story flagship on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, Martin explains how her spiritual practice, her travel philosophy, and her brand are all expressions of the same impulse—to help people connect with their own radiance. The Clothes as a Vehicle

Martin is candid about the fact that Double J is not primarily a fashion brand. “Are the clothes like a Trojan horse for a bigger idea?” Prior asks. “Essentially, yeah,” she replies. The bigger idea is helping people feel comfortable being seen. When a customer once asked what to say to people who don’t want to wear color, Martin answered directly: people with an aversion to color typically have a difficult relationship with being seen by the outside world. Wearing bright prints forces you to stand out, and that can be uncomfortable. But the underlying goal is not about shopping—it is about allowing people to feel their own radiance and show it to the world.
