Anthropic is training to destroy your company

When Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei reportedly told multiple people that his company "might be the only private company in the world at some point," the remark rippled through Silicon Valley. On the All-In Podcast, investor Gavin Baker shared the claim publicly. Anthropic researcher Scholto Douglas called it "completely false," but Baker pushed back: whether or not the specific quote is accurate, many in Silicon Valley are primed to believe it because of Dario's own public messaging about AI dangers. Amodei eventually waded into the discourse himself with a two-part thread, disputing that he has been disproportionately negative about AI and arguing that concentrating AI power versus distributing it widely is a "false choice" that needs case-by-case regulatory thinking.

The episode's hosts and guests wrestled with what this means for any company building on Anthropic's platform. As host Jason put it: "If that company believes they're the last company, by definition, that means you're training it to kill your company. If you're Eleven Labs, if you're Figma, if you're Lovable and you are giving your tokens to Anthropic, and they are saying internally 'the last company,' how much more evidence do you need?"
