He also spent eight years as the lead investigator at Skinwalker Ranch, a property in Utah where he says he arrived as a skeptic expecting to find "old man Withers" behind everything. Instead, he found something he still cannot explain.

The universe as a black hole

Taylor is working on a paper arguing that our universe may exist inside a black hole of roughly five to ten solar masses. The idea is not new — it was proposed in the 1970s and revisited in the 2010s — but Taylor's contribution is narrowing the mass range. He noticed that the observable universe has an event horizon, just like a black hole: there is a boundary beyond which no information can reach us. Using Hawking radiation mathematics and a Python model he built with help from AI, he found that a black hole between five and ten solar masses would produce cosmology matching our own. His model converged around 7.2 solar masses.
