The Basement: Brian Laythe on Ghosts, Possession, and Shadow People

Dr. Brian Laythe, a social psychologist, spent years hauling equipment into haunted houses and doing what almost nobody else in his field does: he published the numbers. Three studies, all showing the same pattern—the electromagnetic field shifted right before something anomalous happened. Shadow figures emerging from a basement with no other exit. Beach balls falling off a bed eleven times in an hour with no explanation. And yet, after a decade of fieldwork, one abandoned rectory in Cincinnati ended his investigations entirely. That story, and what it implies about the nature of haunting phenomena, sits at the center of this conversation.
