Sarah Jane Nader was eliminated from Dancing with the Stars after just one episode, but she didn't see it coming. "I'm a Pisces, so I'm a little delusional," she told Nick Viall on The Viall Files. "I was just like, oh, this is so fun." She and her pro partner Haley had been so immersed in the experience—practicing, going to Halloween Horror Nights, soaking up the press—that she "kind of forgot it was a game show." That changed when she was standing with the other couples facing potential elimination. "I was like, oh wait, I could go home."
Her family turned the disappointment into comedy. Her sister crossed out "Sarah Jane's First Dance" on the dinner menu and wrote "Last." They swapped their "Vote for Sarah Jane" shirts for ones that just said "Sarah Jane." Nader leaned into it. "If I had just been like, oh, I'm so sad, it would have just been like, you know, not a fun night."
The Unpredictable Math of a Competition Show
Nader's experience highlights how little control contestants actually have. She described the scoring as a mix of factors: popularity, pro choreography, voter mobilization, and judge preference. "It's so out of your control," she said, crediting fellow contestant Brooks for warning her to just enjoy it. "You can try your best and be proud of what you did, but that's about it."
