Jack Butcher started his career as a graphic designer in London, moved to New York on a whim after sending 150 emails to Craigslist ads, and spent about a decade working through agencies of every scale—from boutique branding studios to 15,000-person consulting firms. By late 2017, he had the "naivety and arrogance" to start his own agency. He burned out within nine months.
The insight that eventually became Visualize Value came from reflecting on what he actually enjoyed in agency life: the pitch process. Sitting in a room with ten people, distilling complex ideas into a compelling narrative, and asking for six or seven figures. It was the work nobody else wanted to do. After burning out trying to run a full agency, he decided to focus only on that. The name "Visualize Value" came from an early client who said, "We have all this intangible value, you're able to help us visualize it." He started working with people whose products couldn't be seen—service businesses, software companies—and used social media as a lead generation device by visualizing concepts from books and thinkers he admired, adding visual context, and letting the original authors retweet him.
