Cenk Uygur joins Shawn Ryan to dissect how donor money, especially from AIPAC and Israel, has eroded U.S. sovereignty, turning politicians into proxies for foreign and corporate interests. Drawing from 24 years at The Young Turks, Uygur frames this as legalized bribery that unites elites across parties on giveaways while dividing Americans on popular issues like paid family leave (84% support).

Donor Control as the Core Mechanism

Uygur's central framework: Campaign contributions buy policy outcomes at a massive return on investment. AIPAC spent $127 million in the last cycle, the top donor class, securing at least $3 billion back in aid on top of $320 billion prior— a 100-to-1 ROI. Politicians like Hakeem Jeffries ($5.5 million from AIPAC) and Lindsey Graham shift stances predictably. This isn't unique to Israel; Big Pharma blocks drug price negotiation, oil gets subsidies despite record profits. Bipartisan bills, like the $54 billion semiconductor package, hand cash to firms like Intel, which then fired 20,000 U.S. workers and outsourced—lacking guardrails for American jobs.
