We Lowered a Man Into a 300-Year-Old Ship — He Never Came Back | SCP-1734

AI Summary

5 min read

On the beach of Outpost 1734, a 300-year-old British frigate called the Cordelia sits aground, perfectly preserved. Its sails never stir, its wood shows toolmarks as crisp as the day they were cut, and anyone who approaches finds they cannot actually touch it. A finger’s width of empty space separates every surface from a person’s hand, no matter how hard they push. Yet people can walk her decks, climb her ladders, and descend into her hold. The ship holds you up while keeping you back. And just forward of the main mast is a hole about a meter across, its edges splintered upward as though something pushed through from below. Looking into it from above, you see dark water sloshing a meter down. Standing in the hold directly beneath that spot, the ceiling is solid and dry. The same space, somehow, is both flooded and empty. And from that hole, a seven-meter tentacle emerges, lying on the deck like a loose cable, drumming slowly against the wood. It has been drumming for three centuries.
