5 min readAn Honest Dad Ranking (Out Of All 2 Billion)
Michael Stevens is drinking from a mug that reads "Number 1,093,750,012 Dad." Not number one. Not even top half. The number comes from a six-year-old's honest assessment. "I've always thought number one dad on coffee mugs or barbecue tools is kind of braggy," Michael explains. "I want something that would just be funny if the mug ranked me for real."
The ranking process was disarmingly simple. Michael drew a line on a piece of paper, told his daughter it represented a scale from worst dad to best dad, and asked her to mark where he fell. She put him in the bottom half. He then measured the ratio of her mark to the total line and applied it to the estimated 1.5 to 2 billion fathers alive on Earth. The result: 1,093,750,012. "I don't think I'm a bad dad," Michael says. "I haven't had a lot of challenges. I'm lucky enough that I haven't had to make a lot of the same sacrifices that other dads have. So I'm happy for them to be ranked above me."
