The Race Hustler's Masochistic Audience

Michael Knowles opens his monologue with a striking analogy: the campus speaker he's watching is not a lecturer or an activist, but "basically just like a kind of political dominatrix" being paid by white liberals to inflict psychological pain on them. The speaker's thesis, stripped of its rhetorical flourishes, amounts to this: white people enslaved black people, and that impulse is hardwired into white nature. Knowles doesn't deny that some white people enslaved some black people. But he points out a glaring historical problem with the "hardwired" claim.
