A plumber from Texas sold his pickup truck to a dealer in 2013, with the understanding that the company decal on the side would be removed. Instead, the truck was auctioned, shipped to Turkey, and ended up in Aleppo, Syria—driven by ISIS fighters, with the plumber’s logo still visible. The image of jihadists riding around in an American work truck is, as Michael Knowles puts it, “so incongruous” that it becomes genuinely funny. That moment, drawn from a viral news clip, is the kind of terrorist fail Knowles actually enjoys: not just explosions, but “whimsy,” “hijinks,” and “shenanigans.”

Knowles is reacting to a compilation of terrorist fails assembled to promote Runhide Fight Infidels, a Daily Wire action comedy that deliberately channels 1980s and 1990s fun action films where “good guys win, bad guys lose” and “no one apologizes for it.” The episode is built around a simple thesis: Islamic terrorism is not something to joke about—except when terrorists themselves do something so absurd that it becomes funny. Knowles walks through the clips one by one, grading them on a scale of comedic effectiveness, and in doing so articulates a surprisingly precise theory of what makes terrorist violence amusing versus what just feels like routine horror.
