Ep. 2082 - HUGE Swing: Can Republicans Actually Win New York?

The Cornell 7 case keeps generating new text messages, and each one makes the original rape allegation harder to sustain. During the encounter the woman now calls a violent assault, she texted a roommate about DoorDash orders and Uber rides. She joked about being “busy doing stuff” at 3 a.m. When a male friend tried to intervene, she told him she did not want it stopped—this is what they did in the Middle Ages, she said, it’s fun. A week later, after she was not invited to another party, she said it was rape. The boys’ names and faces are public. Their lives are ruined. She remains Jane Doe.

Michael Knowles draws a political lesson from the sordid details: the system is stacked against young men, especially those who believe the liberal and feminist line about sexual equality. The Cornell defendants did everything progressive sexual ethics demands—they obtained what amounted to affirmative consent, in writing, in real time—and it protected them not at all. “The big mistake the guys made here,” Knowles says, “was they believed the liberal morality.” His advice to young men is blunt: keep it buttoned up. Live by 1850s morality, not 1950s. The practical risk of ruin is too high even when the evidence of innocence is overwhelming.
