Signs of the Times: Plague, Politics, and Purpose

On the Michael Knowles Show, the host weaves together four seemingly disconnected stories—a Russian lab leak, a potential AOC presidential run, the expansion of assisted suicide in Canada, and a horse named "Austrian Painter"—to argue that each reveals something deeper about the modern loss of objective purpose and the need to think seriously about the future, including the possibility of living in the end times.

Knowles argues that Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's recent comments about the Michigan Senate race are not really about Abdul El-Sayed, the Democratic candidate. When AOC said that if El-Sayed can win in Michigan, "anybody can win anywhere," Knowles contends she was actually talking about herself and the 2028 presidential election. The logic: El-Sayed is a radical candidate running in a state with many Muslim voters and left-leaning university graduates—a state that already has a Democratic governor. His winning there would prove nothing about broader electability. But if AOC can argue that these candidates can beat Republicans in general elections, the only explicit objection Democrats could raise against her—that she's too radical to win nationally—collapses.
