Yikes: Trump Judge Picks Implode at Senate Hearing

In a Senate hearing room that quickly became a national stage, Donald Trump's nominees for top judicial and Department of Justice positions unraveled under basic questioning about who won the 2020 election. Sitting federal judges with lifetime tenure, a nominee to lead the DOJ's antitrust division, and other judicial picks all refused to state a simple fact that every American knows, exposing what Democratic senators called "cowardice" and "fundamental disqualification" for public trust.

The Antitrust Nominee Who Couldn't Say Biden Won

The most consequential implosion belonged to Cand Dub, Trump's nominee to lead the Department of Justice's Antitrust Division. Under cross-examination from Senator Adam Schiff, Dub refused to say that Joe Biden won the 2020 election. When Schiff asked who won in 2016, Dub answered only that Trump "was certified as winner." Pressed on 2020, Dub said "the United States Congress certified" Biden's victory but would not state it as a factual matter. Schiff pressed: "Why is it difficult for you to answer a simple factual question about who won presidential elections? When did it become so difficult to answer such a simple question? And how can we expect you to rely on the facts when you're evaluating a merger?"
