“MK Confidential” begins with a late-night intrusion. A woman lies frozen in bed as she hears, then senses, then sees a man approach her bedroom. She shuts her eyes and remains absolutely still, barely daring to breathe. The man stands at the foot of the bed, watching her. This man was not an intruder, in the proper sense; he has a key to the house, and he is her husband. He leaves. Two years later, he will take out his rage on the streets of greater D.C. His wife will come to believe he orchestrates this chaos to cover her murder — and, she’s not the only one.
Megyn Kelly goes back to the beginning of the man who led the D.C. sniper attacks. John Allen Muhammad was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, as John Allen Williams. He loses his mom to cancer as a toddler, picks up welding and carpentry as a National Guardsman, and fathers two children os a young man. It is not until he meets Mildred Rozell, however, that John learns how to read.
Meanwhile, the sun rises on a new day in the snipers’ reign of terror over the nation’s capital, then another. The attackers claim more lives and shoot a school-age child in the stomach. Investigators link the shootings to the same .223 rifle, but who’s behind it? The shooters leave a hint, in a message on the back of a tarot card: “Call Me God.” This is Episode 2 of the Beltway Snipers story.
