In Los Angeles, a jury found Meta (Facebook and Instagram) and YouTube liable for addicting features—infinite scrolling, notifications, and autoplay—that drove compulsive use in a 20-year-old plaintiff, KGM, leading to depression, anxiety, eating disorders, self-harm risks, and suicide ideation. They ordered $3 million in compensatory damages, with Meta responsible for 70% and YouTube 30%; punitive damages for malice or fraud are still under deliberation.
