Bob Robotti has spent 43 years buying companies the market has given up on. His firm looks for businesses with "misunderstood fundamentals, improving economics, and narratives that lag reality"—a framework that leads him to stocks others call value traps but he calls zombie companies worth resurrecting. "Frequently those businesses improve their earnings potential while it's not happening," he says. "And therefore it makes it a better investment.
