“Once it's gone, it's gone forever.” That’s the refrain of the new character Brittany Broski is workshopping: the beleaguered, beard-strapped proprietor of a fan emporium who can only offer customers extra-extra-small steampunk waistcoats, chewed-on Mandalorian Funko Pops, and a Nosferatu fragrance bundle if they open a store credit card. The character is a vehicle for a larger point about fandom, dignity, and turning 30 — and it sets the tone for an episode that moves from carousel history to Lord of the Flies to the ethics of cruelty.

The Emporium as a State of Mind

The episode opens with Broski in character, running the front of her imaginary “Broski Emporium and Apothecary.” The bit is precise: the employee can’t grow a mustache due to malnourishment, so he wears a strap-on chin beard; all the inventory runs small because it’s from TeamU; and the rare collectibles have been taken out of their boxes and chewed on, which he insists makes them more valuable because “you can tell that it’s been well loved.” The character is part of a larger cast Broski is developing, including a passive-aggressive historic home tour guide and an antique store owner who “nails the battle-old out-of-touch low-key passive-aggressive but presents as kind person.” These characters share a universe — they take shifts at the same emporium — and they allow Broski to explore the absurdities of fan
