The Quarterbacks Everyone Is Misreading

The conversation opened with a central tension: how much weight to give the postseason versus the full regular season. Kimes argued that CJ Stroud has become a victim of playoff overreaction. After a dismal postseason and a regular season that saw him rank around 9th to 12th in most metrics, many analysts have soured on him. Kimes pushed back hard, pointing out that Stroud’s circumstances were “atrocious” — zero run game, a bottom-tier offensive line, constant injuries to skill players, and a play-caller still finding his footing. “He was like 0 for 4,” she said, listing the factors that usually explain a bad quarterback season. Simmons was more cautious, calling Stroud “the highest ceiling basement guy” but noting that the offensive line, while improved, is still likely a bottom-half unit. He worried that people are too low on Stroud, but also that the buy might be risky.
