Day 270 (Nehemiah 6-7) - Year 8

Nehemiah has just finished rebuilding Jerusalem’s wall in fifty-two days, an impossible task that took less than two months after nearly a century of ruin. But the real battle didn’t end with the last stone. The surrounding nations were afraid, recognizing that God had worked on behalf of the returned exiles, but Nehemiah himself continued to face taunts, lies, betrayal, manipulation, and public humiliation. The wall was finished, yet his personal life remained under siege.

The Conspiracy Against Nehemiah

As Nehemiah and his crew put the finishing touches on the wall, his bullies—Sanballat and Geshem—sent him a threatening letter disguised as a party invitation. Nehemiah saw through it and wrote back a polite refusal. They wrote three more times, unable to take a hint. Then Sanballat’s servant delivered another invitation, this time laced with an accusation: Nehemiah wanted to make himself king, and he was hiring prophets to lie about it. Nehemiah called their bluff, knowing this was part of their plan to intimidate him. He prayed, “Now O God, strengthen my hands,” and God answered with a yes.
