The final trial of the Octave Conclave reaches its breaking point when Chris, the sentient mind dwelling within the island's crystallarium, reveals his true power. Having already killed and imprisoned the original members of the Octave long ago, Chris now controls a swarm of Echo Mites through the preserved corpse of Akari, the first queen of the Thrykene. In the previous moment, Scorpo was disintegrated while shielding Hellgramite from Chris's attack, and the remaining aspirants—Loraveth, Duber Sweetleaf (now under Chris's psychic domination), Hellgramite, Pranklin, and Ricktus—must find a way to survive and strike back.
