Political Pressure and Burleson’s Statements

Congressman Eric Burleson has become a central voice in the week’s updates. He described a possible presidential memo that would require agencies to turn over all related information, with penalties attached for noncompliance. The emphasis is on avoiding a piecemeal search across government offices and instead compelling a broad handover so that declassification can proceed without repeated requests. Burleson also stated that the first files represented only the easiest material and that any deeper records are more likely held by private contractors such as RAND, MITRE, Aerospace Corporation, MIT Lincoln Labs, and Northrop Grumman. He noted that placing sensitive work outside direct government files reduces congressional visibility. These comments frame the current release as an opening step ra
