In late April 2024, residents of Denmark, South Carolina, learned that 25-year-old Megan Baudaford, a mother of three, had vanished. Her close friend Grace Rindel reported her missing after Megan never showed up for a planned sleepover. Grace had received a text from Megan that night saying, "Jarrett's about to kill me. If you don't hear from me in thirty minutes, call the law." Megan asked Grace not to call immediately, saying she would try to leave with her baby and come over. She never arrived. The next morning, Grace forced her way into Megan's home and found no sign of her or the baby. It took nearly 24 hours for Grace to go to the police.

The boyfriend and the first suspects

Megan's boyfriend, 28-year-old Jarrett Davis, was arrested on an unrelated domestic violence warrant when police searched his home. They found Megan's four-month-old baby unharmed, but no Megan. Jarrett told investigators that the last time he saw Megan was the night she disappeared. He said they had sex, then argued, and Megan stormed out, leaving the baby behind. He claimed she simply never came back. Investigators found this hard to believe—Megan was a devoted mother who would not abandon her child.
