AI Summary
5 min readIn February 2023, Joseph bought the domain selfgpt.ai for $150, watched YouTube tutorials to learn how to code, and had paying customers by March. Fifteen months later, his AI text-humanizer SaaS was doing $190,000 in monthly recurring revenue. He built the whole thing as a solo founder who "barely knew how to code" going in, and he did it while still paying off a $400,000 settlement from a failed crypto venture that nearly crushed him.
The Idea: Spotting a Tension in the Market
Joseph's insight came from a simple chain of reasoning. When ChatGPT launched in late 2022, he saw that AI-generated content would flood the internet. "Naturally, there's gonna be some kind of pushback," he says. "There's gonna be people who care. Is the content that I'm reading right now human or is it AI?" That tension—between the ease of AI writing and the growing demand for human-sounding content—was the opportunity.
The specific trigger came from a TikTok video about GPTZero, an AI detector claiming 99% accuracy. Joseph didn't panic; he started reverse engineering. "After a few days of like trialing it, I cracked it," he says. "Eventually, just every single response I was throwing through the AI detector was coming up human." He had a product: take text from ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini, run it through his tool, and make it undetectable as AI-generated.
