Fernando, a product designer originally from Argentina now living in Sweden, runs two SaaS products that together bring in about $15,000 per month: ResumeMaker.online and ICR.es (an AI carousel generator). Both operate on a freemium model. His profit margins are above 90%, with monthly costs around $1,000. He works four hours a day.
Finding Ideas by Niching Down
Fernando's approach to idea generation is deliberately constrained. He doesn't try to invent new markets. Instead, he looks for large, validated markets and finds a narrow slice he can serve better than incumbents. "Canva cannot afford to go for very specific solutions because they need to target a wider audience," he says. "That's where solo entrepreneurs can try to niche down as much as possible, find the portion of a huge market that they can serve better than these big companies."
His philosophy is to scratch his own itch by identifying tasks that are time-consuming and building something that simplifies them. "I don't sell design. I sell time," he says. "That's the value that I provide. I help you to get you to a good enough point and that's more than enough sometimes."
