Dawson Botsford built a crypto airdrop checker called EarnDrop that hit $1 million in annual recurring revenue—and he did it as a solo founder, coding the first version in about five hours during a hackathon. On this episode of Starter Story, he walks through how a single tweet turned a quick prototype into a real business, why he chose to stay small, and what it actually looks like to run a seven-figure SaaS company from a van.

The five-hour launch that worked

The origin story is almost absurdly compressed. Botsford was at a hackathon and decided to build a tool that let people check whether their crypto wallet address was eligible for any airdrops—free token distributions that often go unclaimed. He started coding at 8 p.m. and had a working website on a public URL by 1 a.m. "I basically went start to finish, I think, four or five hours total," he says.

The real unlock came the next morning. He crafted a tweet showing the tool in action, searching an address that had a large number of airdrops attached to it. The video was deliberately tantalizing: it teased what was possible and created a sense of discovery. "I think there's almost a bit of a charitable feeling where folks were like, I want to help other people find the money they didn't know they had," Botsford says. The tweet went viral, and traffic poured in immediately.
