From zero code to $45K/month: How one founder built three SaaS apps by learning in public

The founder had never written a line of code when he quit his full-time job. He told himself he would learn to code on YouTube and build tools he actually needed. Today he runs three SaaS applications generating $45,000 per month. The entire journey started not with a business plan, but with a specific problem: he wanted to rebuild a tool he was using for Instagram, this time from scratch using code.

Learning by building, not by watching

The founder's approach to learning to code was deliberately unorthodox. He found a 15-hour YouTube course, but instead of working through it sequentially, he applied each new concept immediately to the Instagram tool he was building. "If you just watch a course most of the time it's not enough because you end up losing yourself in the languages that you will probably never use and you don't really see why you are learning what you are learning," he said. This project-first method gave him context for every line of code he wrote. He wasn't memorizing syntax in the abstract; he was solving a real problem that mattered to him. The course quickly became a passion, not a chore.
