The origin story is not a founding myth

Walls had been running a blog called Starter Story for years before it became a paid product. He would interview founders about how they started their businesses and publish the stories for free. The site got traffic, but it did not make meaningful money. He tried a few things — affiliate links, display ads, a small newsletter — but nothing produced real revenue. The turning point came when he realized that his audience did not just want to read case studies. They wanted to find case studies. They wanted to search by industry, by business model, by revenue range. The free blog format could not deliver that experience well.
