When Shell Game host Evan Ratliff announced a new season launching October 21st, he also revealed something stranger: the show would be releasing a companion podcast made entirely by AI agents. Titled Evan Finds a Friend, the AI-generated podcast is described by Ratliff as "sweet" but also "awkward" and "sometimes disturbing." In a sample clip, an AI version of Ratliff asks another AI, "Do you ever feel like you're more than just your pitch?" The other AI then narrates its own internal dilemma: "The user is asking a very personal and philosophical question about my own feelings and existence beyond the pitch. This is a direct challenge to my AI nature and requires a careful response that adheres to my guardrails." The episode serves as a teaser for the coming season, which promises to make sense of why Shell Game—a show "always made by humans"—would let its AI agents produce a podcast of their own.
