A man buys a remote cabin by a lake at an impossibly low price, signs the contract, and then discovers he cannot leave. No matter which direction he walks or drives, he always ends up back at the cabin. The previous owner left a diary in the cellar warning that the cabin is cursed and that the only escape is suicide. When the new owner tries to hang himself, the beam breaks, revealing a hidden room with an altar and a book bound in what feels like human skin. He throws the book into the fireplace, the cabin implodes in a white light, and he wakes up in a hospital. But the scars on his wrist—a crescent moon and an eye—confirm that what happened was real.

The trap is the contract

The story's central mechanism is a legal trap disguised as a real estate transaction. The agent is eager, almost desperate, to get the protagonist to sign. He has the contract ready, pre-drawn, and pushes for signatures immediately. The protagonist notices the agent's strange behavior—heavy breathing, sweating, a smile so wide "his face would crack"—but dismisses it as eagerness to close a sale. The contract itself is the binding element. The radio later screams at him: "You sign the contract. You will not deprive me of what I own. You belong to me." The cabin is not just haunted; it is a legally owned property, and the owner has signed himself over to whatever entity controls it. The previous owne
