Scary Stories - Nightshift

A gas station night shift employee, working extra to save money for a move to Minneapolis, finds himself trapped in a slow-motion horror that unfolds over the course of a single shift. The story is told from his perspective as he narrates the events of his first unsupervised night on the job.

The trouble begins when he retrieves his name tag from the manager's office and discovers a box containing dozens of name tags from previous employees—far more than the high turnover rate would explain. This discovery plants the first seed of unease, but the real nightmare starts when a man with bloodshot eyes appears outside the front door, standing so close that the automated doors should have opened, yet they remain closed. The man simply stares, unresponsive, as more people begin emerging from the woods across the road.

The Phone Call That Changes Everything

Just past midnight, the narrator receives a call from an unknown number. The caller identifies herself as Angie, a former employee who worked the same shift. She warns him that something terrible is coming and that he needs to leave immediately. "If you're not out by then, you might as well be dead," she says. She insists that if he simply walks out the door, nothing will happen to him—the people outside are there only to scare him into staying inside.
