The Red Warehouse

An old friend named Stewart sent a mass email that began as a desperate plea for help and ended as something far more sinister. The recipient—the narrator of this story—initially assumed it was spam, but recognized Stewart's voice within a few sentences. Stewart was not a liar. He had never lied to anyone the narrator knew, not once. That single fact kept the narrator reading.

Stewart and his new wife Danielle were honeymooning in Prague. After two boring days in the city, they asked around for parties and found a flyer at an internet café—a postcard-sized announcement for a rave, with no address, only a handwritten URL on the back. The girl behind the counter warned them not to visit the site without a VPN. For a hundred American dollars, she set them up at a computer in the back, away from prying eyes.

The website was unlike anything Stewart had seen: red letters on a red background, a story about a man who didn't trust his own reflection, and then a pop-up: Do you like fun? Yes or no. Stewart typed yes. Another pop-up appeared: a formal invitation to "the greatest party in all the world." He typed yes again. An address appeared, along with a reminder to bring dancing shoes.
