Scary Stories - I made first contact

A man named Zach is writing what he believes will be his final account. He is dying in a rented country house, coughing blood from lungs ravaged by pneumonic plague. But the disease is only part of the story. Days earlier, his roommate John brought in a stray cat—matted, covered in black sores, and half-rotten—that died within minutes on their bathroom floor. What seemed like a sad, forgettable detail set off a chain of events that led Zach to a spacecraft, a glass cell, and a species of eight-foot-tall moth-like aliens who had been watching Earth for nearly 700 years.

The Sickness and the Abduction

Zach and John both fell ill with what they assumed was a bad flu. Within days, they were coughing blood, running high fevers, and growing too weak to stand. John's health insurance had just lapsed, so they avoided a hospital. On the second night, Zach woke to strange chirping sounds downstairs and found John arguing with something in the dark. When he rushed to help, he saw two massive, faceless creatures in rubber suits dragging John across the front lawn toward a glowing amber doorway that had appeared in the middle of a field. Zach chased them, grabbed one creature's foot, and was kicked in the jaw. The doorway closed, leaving him alone on the cold ground.
