Scary Stories - I made first contact

A shipping manager in rural Southern Oregon comes home from work to hear that his roommate John found a stray cat on their porch—matted, covered in black sores, half-rotten. John thought it was dead until it sneezed and tried to stand. He bagged the corpse and threw it in the trash. The two men joked about the smell and moved on. Within days, both were coughing blood, running fevers, and deteriorating faster than any flu should allow. By the time the narrator, Zack, understands what is happening to them, it is too late for hospitals. But the creatures who arrive at their door are not paramedics.

The abduction and the ship

Zack wakes from a feverish sleep to hear John arguing with something downstairs—a cooing, chirping voice. When he investigates, he sees John being dragged into the woods by two massive, faceless things in burgundy rubber, with insect-like legs and folded wings. Zack chases them across a moonlit field and watches as a square of amber light opens in midair—a doorway into a room suspended in nothing. He grabs one creature's foot, gets kicked in the chest, and the doorway seals into an invisible, warm metallic surface. A humming rises, and in the sky above he sees a flash of an incomprehensibly massive object covered in flickering lights of every color. Then it vanishes.
