Scary Stories - Cursed

A registered nurse in New Orleans watched a patient die in the emergency room. The man's wife, a practitioner of Voodoo, blamed the medical team and cursed them in another language. The nurse and his coworker Andre laughed it off. A few weeks later, the doctor who treated the patient died in his sleep from a massive cerebral hemorrhage. He was young and healthy. Andre told the nurse the curse was real and that one of them was next. That was the last time the nurse saw Andre alive. Later that night, Andre fell asleep at the wheel and plowed into oncoming traffic. The nurse quit his job and moved back home. Nine years later, he still doesn't know if the deaths were coincidences.

The Emergency Room Curse

The first story establishes the episode's central theme: Voodoo curses that produce real, observable consequences. The nurse describes the scene in clinical detail—the dying man smelled of rot, had a festering wound on his buttocks, fluid on his lungs, and a high fever. The two women with him were shrieking and wailing in another language. When the nurse tried to lead the older woman away, she hit him. After the patient died, the woman screamed at the doctor and Andre, blaming them. Andre later translated: she was a Voodoo practitioner and had cursed them all.
