Greta Gerwig's Narnia, Patrick Clancy's Media Tour, and the Beige Toy Debate

On this episode of Relatable, Allie Beth Stuckey covers several distinct topics, but a consistent thread runs through them: the tension between surface-level impressions and deeper truth. Whether she's analyzing Greta Gerwig's reinterpretation of C.S. Lewis's Chronicles of Narnia, the public reaction to Patrick Clancy's 60 Minutes interview, or the debate over beige children's toys, Stuckey argues that audiences often miss the substance of a story or a person because they're distracted by packaging, aesthetics, or vibes.

The Theological Heart of Narnia

Stuckey opens with a personal reflection on C.S. Lewis's impact on her faith. She describes reading Lewis's works—Mere Christianity, The Screwtape Letters, Surprised by Joy—as a high schooler and finding language for thoughts she had but couldn't articulate. Lewis's fiction, she says, "opened up another chamber of your brain."

This leads into the main concern: Greta Gerwig has taken over the adaptation of The Magician's Nephew for Netflix, and early details are troubling. Gerwig has described the film as a "rock opera" and cast Meryl Streep as the voice of Aslan. Stuckey acknowledges Streep's talent—"one of the most talented actresses"—but argues the casting undermines the entire purpose of Lewis's work.
