SPOOKY SEASON IS BACK W/ Adam & Marlene
October 1, 2026
AI Summary
5 min readIt was a normal night in Monterey, California, driving home from Mexico, when the sky flashed neon blue for a single second. No thunder, no lightning, no explanation. Years later, another person on the same stretch of road near Moss Landing saw the exact same thing. That shared, unplaceable memory — a flash of light that meant something but proved nothing — is the kind of experience that anchors this episode of Pretty, Not Smart, a freewheeling Spooky Season kickoff where hosts Louie and Yoatzi Castro are joined by friends Addie and Marlene for a night of games, ghost stories, and UFO lore.
The Engagement That Started the Night
Before the scares, the episode opens with a genuine personal milestone: Yoatzi is now engaged. Her fiancé, Alex, pulled off a surprise proposal at sunset, with friends and family hidden in wait. Yoatzi describes peeking into the setup, seeing Alex at the end of a tunnel of candles, and realizing what was happening. The timing felt fated — a cloudy sky broke open into a stunning sunset just as she walked in. The ring hasn't left her finger except for showers and sleep. The group celebrates the moment, and it sets a warm, conversational tone before the mood shifts into the spooky content the episode is built around.
